Silk & Nettle Fibre
60% Silk & 40% Nettle Fibre by C.T.F.
2/30 Nm (1-ply). 100g cone = 1500 metres.
This wild-harvested Himalayan Nettle Fibre, also known as Ramie, has a similar structure to flax and is one of the stronger plant fibres.
Ramie yields a high-strength bast fibre, which can be bleached to a bright white with a high surface lustre. Length ranges up to around 0.55 m (21.6 in).
It is in the same family of plants as the common stinging nettle, which is re-emerging as a sustainable textile fibre.
Due to the high cost of ramie, and its low resilience, it is often blended with other natural fibres to impart some of its strength, as it is here with Silk.
