Kevlar
100% Kevlar (trademark name for para-aramid).
Para-aramid is converted into fibre by (solvent) wet spinning.
Para-aramid is an aromatic polyamide, which means that unlike nylon many of the amide bonds are cyclic (closed), and these help to ensure that the polymer forms into long unbroken chains (increased molecular weight). Para-aramids, such as Kevlar, have very high strength to weight and low creep (resistance to deformation under load). Being strong and lightweight, they are sometimes called a 'super fibre'.
Para-aramids' high tear strength, cutting resistance and impact absorption are utilized in many demanding applications, ranging from reinforced tyres to bulletproof vests.
Helpful Hints:
Para-aramid is naturally gold-coloured. It can be used to add strength, make garments safe and cut resistant. 30oC machine washable.
