About Us
Uppingham Yarns Ltd was founded by the Traylen family in a small shop in Uppingham in 1980 to sell ex-industrial yarns to home, trade and club machine knitters.
The firm thrived and as it grew we moved to larger premises in 1984, on the site of an old bus station and garage.
Twenty years later on we decided to move to our present location which is located 50 yards further down the road still on the same side of the street.
This house (an old fruit and vegetable store) is now our two storey shop and warehouse, including our yarn sorting and winding department with a yarn analysis and quality control facility.
We stock repeatable and non-repeatable yarns in many fibre types for hand and machine knitters, weavers, spinners and fly fishers.
We now stock repeatable Lambswool, Merino, Cotton, Viscose, Silk, Acrylic, Shetland and other interesting fibre types.
We have a busy mail order department which serves our customers, including many universities, and our warehouse shop is open to the public six days a week.
We also 'show' at many exhibitions, where you can meet and talk with Nick.
As some of the yarns we carry are non-repeatable, we operate a yarn matching service in addition to providing samples of our repeatable stock.
